Freeze 'Em All

Metallica played a ten-song performance dubbed “Freeze ‘Em All,” December 8, 2013, inside a clear geodesic dome near the heliport of Carlini Argentine Base, South Shetland Islands, Antarctica. The crowd of 120 people included scientists from around the world and contest winners from Latin America. The audience heard the show through headphones rather than normal amplification, in keeping with Antarctic noise pollution protocol. James Hetfield remarked, "We've come here with meaningful intentions to raise awareness around this place."

This performance earned Metallica a Guinness World Record for being the first band to play on all seven continents, a feat they achieved within one calendar year.
